Freihofer’s Run For Women Announces 2020 Ambassadors
ALBANY, N.Y. (February 19, 2020) — Officials at the Freihofer’s® Run for Women, one of the nation’s most prestigious all-women’s road races, have selected 26 women from more than 70 applications to serve as ambassadors for the event’s 42nd edition on Saturday, May 30 in downtown Albany.
Ambassadors educate women about the race, encourage them to sign up and promote attendance at the Freihofer’s Health & Fitness Expo at The Armory at Sage College. In return, they receive complimentary entry into the 2020 event, two free entries to give away, Run for Women apparel to wear at area races and events, and discount codes to offer at other races and events.
“We were humbled to receive so many applications this year,” said FRW Do-Director Kristen Hislop. “It is obvious this race has special meaning for so many women. We struggled to narrow the field to our original goal of 20 ambassadors, so we instead went with 26. We are thrilled to have so many amazing women with compelling stories, strong social media/community presence, and a genuine love for this event represent our brand.”
Chosen this year were: Annamarie Anderson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Emily Bocklet (Katonah, N.Y.), Darlene Cardillo (Delmar, N.Y.), Delma Carlton (Bronx, N.Y.), Jennifer Casey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), Lisa Ciancetta (Guilderland, N.Y.), Elizabeth Maloy DeBole (Loudonville, N.Y.), Raechel Fraterrigo (Altamont, N.Y.), Olivia Frempong (North Greenbush, N.Y.), Kristen Garzone (Troy, N.Y.), Clarissa Hartzog (Troy, N.Y.), Sheyna Horowitz (Maplewood, N.J.), Danielle Kiser Glens Falls, N.Y.), Carolann Koleci (Albany, N.Y.), Shiobbean Lemme (Pittsfield, Mass.), Sharon Maltbie (Nassau, N.Y.), Brittany Mangione (Troy, N.Y.), Rebecca Maroney (Red Hook, N.Y.), Bethany Mazura (Guilderland, N.Y.), Amy Mosher (Cohoes, N.Y.), Mary Ellen Myer (Delmar, N.Y.), Dana Silano Pohleven (Dolgeville, N.Y.), Kathryn Shelton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Aimee Sinopoli (Adams, Mass.), Stephanie Wilkinson (Albany, N.Y.) and, Benita Zahn (Albany, N.Y.)
“I’m excited to be a Freihofer's Run for Women Ambassador because I want to encourage family and friends to do something they've never done before,” said new Ambassador Clarissa Hartzog, noting that the Run for Women was her first 5K and laid the foundation for her to complete two half marathons. “I want to encourage ladies to use the momentum of the New Year and new decade to accomplish goals they’ve set for themselves. I want them to know that if I can do it so can they.”
“I remember watching the Freihofer’s when Cheri Goddard Kenah won and that’s when I decided I wanted to try and be a `fast runner,’” added Elizabeth Maloy DeBole of Loudonville, a four-time All-American at Georgetown and 2012 Olympic trialist at 5,000m, who competed at Freihofer’s numerous times as an elite runner. “I'm looking forward to a new challenge and delighted to serve as an Ambassador for such a fun and important event.”
The application process began in January and an outstanding group of women applied. A committee then reviewed the applications and narrowed the field to 26 women who have not only made the event a part of their lives, but also have a strong social media presence and can inspire others to take part.
“Everywhere I go women tell me stories of their first/fastest/most fun/or comeback Freihofer's Run for Women,” said Hislop. “We hope our Ambassadors will share their inspirational stories with even more women with the goal of encouraging others to experience the long-term benefits of a healthier lifestyle.”
